Rodrygo is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a right winger or forward for La Liga club Real Madrid and the Brazil national team

With this statement, the forward has confirmed his desire to stay at the white club, leaving behind rumors about his possible departure. The decision has surprised many, as the interested clubs are willing to offer astronomical figures to sign him.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team had lost three of their first five games in the new, expanded Champions League, sparking concerns they could fail to reach the knockout rounds. However, they have now won three consecutive group-stage matches and five in a row in all competitions since their 5-2 defeat by Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final on 12 January.

In the second half, the Brazilian closed the scoring with the third goal. Rodrygo took advantage of a shot by Kylian Mbappé that the local goalkeeper couldn’t stop. The Brazilian ended up pushing the ball into the back of the net to seal Madrid’s victory on French soil.

Rodrygo Goes has scored 11 goals in the last 10 games. Additionally, the winger has achieved a total of 25 goals in the 40 games he has played with Real Madrid in the Champions League. Madrid began the day in 16th place in the standings, but were just a point outside the top eight, while Brest had also already sealed a place in the knockout phase and were a point better off than their opponents.

Brest started well, but their fans were silenced when Rodrygo cut into the box from the left and finished low across the goalkeeper and in off the far post to make it 1-0 just before the half-hour mark. The French side thought they had equalised six minutes after the interval when Ludovic Ajorque poked the ball home via a deflection, but the effort was ruled out for a tight offside, cutting short the celebrations.

Guingamp – Rodrygo scored twice and Jude Bellingham once as title holders Real Madrid eased to a 3-0 victory against Brest in France in the Champions League on Wednesday, but the result was not enough for the Spanish giants to advance straight to the last 16.

Ancelotti’s side entered the weekend second on the LaLiga table, four points behind rival Barcelona, but Barca’s shock defeat to lowly Las Palmas has opened the door for Madrid to make progress by winning its game in hand.

The Italian continued to back 25-year-old France forward Kylian Mbappe, who had another subdued performance in Madrid’s loss to Liverpool as he failed to trouble the Premier League club’s defence and missed a penalty in the second half.

In the end, in fact, Madrid may even be disappointed that they had not drawn even closer here: 4-0 up inside an hour, withdrawing Jude Bellingham with 30 minutes left and replacing Mbappé and Rodrygo 10 minutes after, they “only” scored one more and then conceded late. That ultimately left Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, level on points, one and three goals away respectively, almost within reach. “I think it’s very complicated, almost impossible to finish in the top eight,” Ancelotti admitted.

The only blemish on the evening from a Madrid perspective was Vinicius Jr’s yellow card for simulation, which means he will miss their last league-phase game against Brest next week, and an 85th-minute consolation goal from Mads Bidstrup.

It is a big blow to Real Madrid because even though Rodrygo has not been starting every single game, his pace and quality on the ball would’ve been significant in at least a couple of those games, and Real Madrid will have to shift to a four-man midfield, at least for a few weeks until Rodrygo comes back.

Liverpool has been advised that it has an “obvious” pick to replace Mohamed Salah should the Egyptian fail to agree terms with the Reds amid ongoing talks regarding new deal. “I don’t know what his contract situation is in Madrid, but I think of him because we’ve been seeing him play at the highest level and winning Champions Leagues in the last couple of years.

“All the big clubs you can talk of have made mistakes and moved players on, but I’d be surprised to see him go in January. He still offers a real physical threat with pace and It’s something Liverpool don’t have in attacking areas.

The Brazilian international has been heavily linked with moves away from the Bernabeu in recent months and Man City have been named as one of his suitors.

The report claims that Rodrygo has become one of Pep Guardiola’s top targets amid the uncertainty surrounding Erling Haaland, who is a target for Real Madrid and others.

Vinicius Jr is coming off of an incredible season, because of which he is now among the favorites for winning the Ballon d’Or. Rodrygo has had a good season too, and he would be looking forward to keep pushing for his place in the starting XI, whereas Militao — who is coming off of an ACL injury — will hope that the pre-season gives him enough preparation for the coming season.

The report adds that Rodrygo’s entourage have quickly tried to cool the speculation by insisting the Brazil international does not want to leave Madrid, with club officials also keen to keep hold of Rodrygo despite Mbappe’s imminent arrival.

The Reds may look to cash in on Salah this summer, with the Egyptian, who has just a year left on his contract, having been linked to a move to the Saudi Pro League. And Rodrygo, who still has four years left to run on his Real deal, could be an ideal replacement.

Liverpool will continue its quest for Europa League glory on Thursday night when it takes on Serie A side Atalanta at  The Reds remain favorites to go on and win the competition but will not have it all their own way in the quarter-final tie.

The latter may arguably be the least glamorous of the trio but has scored 14 times this season. Rodrygo, 23, joined Real in 2019 from Santos but has revealed his career could have taken a very different path a couple of years earlier.

Real Madrid are expected to sign Kylian Mbappe in the summer though. And that has led to questions about the future of Rodrygo. Will he get enough chances if or when the French World Cup winner arrives? If he does not, would he satisfied being a squad player?
